The Strike School today

The First Strike School

Burston Strike School sits in the middle of Burston just behind the church on Church Green. The village is about 18 miles south of Norwich off the A140 and 3 miles NE of Diss.

The village has a population of about 600 people (less than at the time of the strike). Sadly the shop and post office closed a few years ago but there is a pub, an animal feed mill and of course Burston County Primary School, from where the pupils went on strike in 1914. It is a pretty place with country walks and cycle routes and other visitor attractions close by.

In 1949 The Strike School was registered as an educational charity, "Scheme made by the Minister of Education under the Charitable Trusts Act 1853 to 1925 in the manner of the foundation known as the Burston Strike School" dated 15th August 1949.

There are 4 self-perpetuating trustees who manage the school and try to develop it as a museum, visitor centre, educational archive and village amenity.
